Xiaomeisha renovation to cost 15b yuan

Shenzhen SEZ Development Group will invest 15 billion yuan (US$2.13 billion) in the renovation of the Xiaomeisha coastal belt.

The coastal area will feature an underwater museum, cable car service, food street, watch tower, swimming pool, slow-traffic bicycle lane, diving center and coral reef center, according to a report in the Nanfang Daily.

The renovation has been listed as one of the city’s key projects. The project covers 250 hectares of land and 130 hectares of the sea, the report said quoting the project contractor.

A calling card of Shenzhen’s tourism, the area will be a world-level metropolis tourism resort that integrates tourism, residence and business. The industrial development of the area will be guided by cultural tourism and healthy life philosophies. Culture creation, high-tech service, leisure tourism, health management, sports, education and training will be given priority.

It consists of a sea-land park that is connected with four vitality areas. The four vitality areas include a forest area, whose valley, lake and creeks are linked by greenways, a feature town with business streets, a fantasy sea world and Dreamland Meisha Bay.
