Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) will jointly build a hospital through cooperation with the Yantian District Government, according to an agreement signed recently.
The two sides will establish a long-term, stable and close strategic partnership, seeking to improve the hospital’s medical service standard and clinical teaching quality through cooperation, and actively expanding the deep industry-university cooperation.
According to the development plan of the SUSTech-Yantian Hospital, the cooperation of the two sides will be implemented at different levels by sharing facilities and academic resources. In the short term, an endocrine clinic will be built. It will be developed into a first-class tertiary hospital with specialist metabolic disease clinics in the long term.
The hospital will provide better medical services for the people in the area, promote medical education and enhance the clinical research in Yantian District and within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Yang Jun, head of the district government, believes that this cooperation will support the Yantian government in providing an improved quality of life with a high standard of health-care services in the Greater Bay Area. Furthermore, the knowledge and resource sharing between both sides will speed up the construction of Yantian District into a modern coastal city that is suitable for people from all over the world.
SUSTech president Chen Shiyi said the cooperation to build a hospital opens a new historical chapter of medical education at SUSTech.
“SUSTech will seize this opportunity to deepen cooperation with the Yantian government. The cooperation will support the innovative development of the Greater Bay Area and further improve the medical and health-care conditions in the Greater Bay Area,” said Chen.
Currently, SUSTech has two affiliated hospitals — First Affiliated Hospital to SUSTech and Second Affiliated Hospital to SUSTech.
