The city’s traffic police department issued a notice Wednesday on soliciting public opinion on the amendments of traffic violation punishment regulations, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
The revisions include many changes concerning such issues as changing lanes, using high beams, and passengers not wearing seat belts.
According to the amended rules, a fine of 300 yuan (US$44.64) will be imposed if a turn signal is not used when changing lanes or it is turned on for less than five seconds.
Regarding the illegal act of not using the high beams according to traffic rules, the penalty has been increased from 300 yuan to 500 yuan.
The amended rules also stipulate that a fine of 500 yuan be imposed on a passenger if found not wearing a seat belt in spite of the driver’s warning.
In view of the illegal acts of trading penalty points or providing false testimony to the traffic authority, the violator shall be fined 500 yuan and detained for no less than five days but no more than 10 days.
According to the notice, opinions and suggestions can be submitted to the city’s traffic police department by letter, e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org), phone call (0755-8316-2822), Weibo, WeChat or the department’s portal by March 21.
