Report reviews the past and sets out future goals for Yantian

Yang Jun, head of Yantian District, delivered a report on the work of the Yantian Government at the opening of the fifth session of the fifth Yantian District People’s Congress on Jan. 24. The report offered a grand overview of the government's achievements in the past year, while also signaling Yantian’s future priorities. Yantian Party Chief Chen Qing and other leaders also attended the congress.

Yang said in his report that Yantian’s economy in 2018 was improving in stability. Yantian’s projected GDP in 2018 was around 63 billion yuan (US$9 billion), a year-on-year increase of 7.3 percent. The Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) was expected to reach 11 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.4 percent. The import and export trade volume was 115.7 billion yuan from January to November.

Container throughput in Yantian Port reached 13.16 million TEU, an increase of 3.6 percent and retaining the world's top 1 spot in terms of growth.

In the past year, Yantian was the destination of a total of 20.1 million trips, and total revenue in tourism industry reached 9.194 billion yuan.

Two thousand nine hundred fifty-four businesses were registered in 2018, an increase of 4.8 percent. Yantian also introduced 124 high-caliber talents last year and granted industrial development funds of 146 million yuan.

Yantian’s opening up reached a new threshold as signaled by its signing of orders worth 8 billion yuan at the first China International Import Expo.

People’s livelihoods also continued to improve. An additional 3,370 units of affordable housing was built and 1,126 were offered. Sixty-two medical talents were introduced. Yantian spent 3.576 billion yuan on nine key areas related to people’s livelihoods, accounting for 65.5 percent of general public expenditure.

Yantian also achieved tremendously with more than 3,000 cultural events organized for residents.

In terms of the environment, Yantian completed 53 tasks related to water harnessing and quality improvement and ranked top for three consecutive years in the assessment of energy-saving goals.

In 2019 Yantian will make efforts to reach the following goals:

First, Yantian will continue to deepen reform and opening up and release greater vitality for development;

Second, Yantian will strive to build a modern industrial system;

Third, Yantian will work harder for people’s wellbeing;

Fourth, Yantian will build itself into a strong district in cultural development;

Fifth, Yantian will implement ideas for green development and build itself into a model district for national ecological civilization.

Last but not least, Yantian will work hard to turn itself into an international bay with great charm.
